First Anniversary of the Optogenerapy project
ASE Optics Europe attended to the third Optogenerapy Meeting

ASE Optics Europe, together with all the other members of the Optogenerapy project consortium, attended the meeting organized on 23rd February in Paris, at INSERM facilities, to celebrate the third follow-up meeting of the project, which coincided with the celebration of the first year of its life.

ASE Optics optical design research life sciences

During this first year, the work carried out by the consortium includes the design and development of the implant, including the selection of materials and components to meet the mechanical, optoelectronic, wireless and biocompatibildiad requirements and minimum invasion of the new device.

The compliance with the design parameters identified in the manufacturing process has been evaluated by the Optogenerapy partners and, specifically, ETHZ has assembled and tested the functional prototypes manufactured by 3D printing. Along with this task, protocols for in vitro biocompatibility evaluations of biomaterials and the implant have been reviewed, and the first steps have been taken to evaluate the performance of the in vitro implant.

Next steps

With the support of the “Product Life Cycle Process” department of Boston Scientific, the development of the implantable device will begin in 2018, based on the results obtained and identified in the design and regulation phase. In addition, a first draft of the regulatory strategy has been created.

On the other hand, ASE Optics and all consortium members are continuously working on the control and monitoring of the project’s risk analysis, to ensure safety and protection with respect to the future use of the implantable components and external components.

Over the next few months the partners aim to increase the dissemination activities of Optogenerapy, presenting the project in international congresses such as LOPEC and continue publishing articles in specialized journals and with free and public access for the interest of the scientific community and the general public.
